Biography
Sema BOYANCI ÜNSALAN was born in 1954 in Mengen, Bolu. She graduated from Bolu Primary Teacher Training School in 1971 and Istanbul Atatürk Education Institute in 1974; she completed her master's degree at Gazi University Faculty of Vocational Education in 1992. She worked as a painting teacher in secondary and higher education institutions for a period. She held many solo exhibitions, two of which were abroad; she participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. She won the 1996 State Original Printmaking Competition Achievement Award and the 1997 Türkiye İş Bankası Original Printmaking Competition Grand Prize. Interpreting her paintings as the transformation of life experiences into form, the artist settled in Datça in 2002; she created printmaking works at İMOGA in 2006 and continued her production in her studio in Datça.
