Biography
Ahunur Özkarahan was born in 1975. She studied Graphic Arts at Marmara University in Istanbul (1994–1998) and later obtained a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies – Electronic Arts from California State University in the USA (1999–2001). In addition to continuing her printmaking workshop studies, she also pursued a career in educational technology. She continued her artistic development at the Istanbul Graphic Arts Museum (IMOGA, 2006–2009). In 2008 and 2009, she went to Edinburgh, Scotland to learn photopolymer printmaking techniques and worked with Alfons Bytautas, a master of this technique. She also attended printmaking and design courses at Central Saint Martins, UAL in London. Photopolymer printing allows for high-resolution, near-photographic quality printing on zinc and copper plates thanks to a special light-sensitive film. The artist has designed and printed many works using this technique, which combines art and technology. She also works in engraving, screen printing, lithography, and linoleum printing. Ahunur Özkarahan completed her doctorate in Plastic Arts and Painting at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. As part of her doctoral studies, she conducted a semester-long research project on ecological art at the Department of Art and Ecology at the University of New Mexico in the USA. She is an artist who teaches art and design courses at various universities and middle schools in Istanbul and internationally.
