Biography
Born in 1957, the artist graduated from Boğaziçi University's Marketing Department in 1979 and won first place in the Painting, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts Departments of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1985, she received her diploma from the Higher Painting Department, studying under Prof. Neşet Günal and Prof. Neşe Erdok. From 1999 to 2002, she was a lecturer in Drawing at the Department of Stage Design and Costume at Mimar Sinan University's Faculty of Fine Arts. She received the Pamukbank Incentive Award at the 100th Anniversary Group Painting Exhibition of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1984 and an honorable mention at the "Young Artists" Student Competition Exhibition during the 1985 Youth Year. Since 1985, she has mentored many adult and child students and participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, art fairs, project works, symposiums, and art festivals. Regarding her glass painting and oil paintings, the artist says the following: These paintings showcase universal and contemporary art without resorting to simplistic approaches, corruption, or succumbing to cheap, everyday trends and impulses. They don't take refuge in the past, but without severing ties with tradition, incorporating accumulated knowledge into the present, aiming to bring a new and different aesthetic perspective to the beauty and richness of life within changing times and conditions. They don't deceive the viewer by making them feel more modern. They are not deceptive. They don't hide behind incomprehensible sentences. They avoid things that risk becoming "contemporary popular." They don't need another disciplinary language besides visual art. They are produced based on the inherent plastic values of painting. They have artistic ethics and discipline. They are internal, sincere, honest, and true to what they believe. They are responsible to art history. In original compositions featuring human figures, drawing, design, light and dark color balance, and psychological dimensions are prominent. To draw attention to the human figure, the paintings are generally set against a background close to abstraction. The objects used are intended to support the subject and strengthen the narrative. The present, the past, or life itself—play, relationships, or loneliness—is depicted through jugglers and players (that is, us), supported by symbols of wisdom, healing, and abundance, using two disciplines: glass painting and oil painting, all within the context of the art's own journey and a pictorial language.
