Biography
He was born in Istanbul in 1934. In 1949, he entered the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Rudolf Belling, Zühtü Müritoğlu, and Ali Hadi Bara. He graduated in 1957. In 1960, he went to Paris on a scholarship from the French government, where he studied sculpture in René Collamarini's studio and engraving in William Stanley Hayter's studio (Studio 17) at the Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris. In 1965, he began working as an assistant at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. He became an associate professor in the Sculpture Department in 1970 and a professor in the same institution in 1976. Until his retirement in February 2001, he continued his work as a workshop instructor and head of the Sculpture Department at Mimar Sinan University. Since 2004, he has continued his work in his private studio located within the Istanbul Graphic Arts Museum (İMOGA).
