Biography
He was born in Uşak in 1937. He studied painting at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, working with Halil Dikmen in the gallery and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu in the studio. He completed his academy education in 1959. That same year, he founded the Abstract Seven group with his friends. In 1962, he became an assistant at the Academy, working in the studios of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Cemal Tollu, and Cevat Dereli. In 1963, he founded the Blue Group with Altan Gürman, Adnan Çoker, Sarkis, and Tülay Tura. He continued his art research, which he began in Madrid and Barcelona after winning an art scholarship from the Spanish government, in Paris and London. He served as president of the Turkish Contemporary Painters Association and the Visual Artists Association. Between 1979 and 1982, he served as the director of the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum. In 1981, he was promoted to professor at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts.
