Biography

Filiz OTYAM, who studied interior design in New York between 1963 and 1968, began her artistic work in Gazipaşa district of Antalya, where her family settled in 1979. She has continued her artistic endeavors to this day, holding numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally featuring "Original Weaving, Photography, and Weaving-Felt" pieces. Her unique woven textiles, produced on a loom, were exhibited alongside her husband's paintings in many cities in Turkey and abroad, including the Lodz International Textile Triennale in Poland in 1992, where she was invited to participate. Her work, "Toros Blackberry," marked Turkey's first appearance on this platform. She participated again in 1998 and 2004 with her works "Goddess of Fertility Cybele" and "Woven Individuals." Both works were included in the museum's collection. As a founding member of the International Fiber Art Center Artemision E.V. in Germany, she participated in exhibitions held in Görlitz in 2000 and 2002. She worked for 25 years in a workshop she established with village women in Gazipaşa, producing goods for organizations such as Vakko and Hamzagil, as well as various hotels. Her photography work, which began in 1978 at AFSAD courses, has led to numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including "The World Should Be Beautiful," which she opened with her husband Fikret Otyam. In 2009, she held a textile and felt exhibition at the Çırağan Kempinski Art Gallery in Istanbul, Galeri Polart in Ankara, and the Ege University Cultural Center in İzmir.
