Biography
Gül Derman was born in Ankara in 1942. She graduated from Arnavutköy American Girls' College in 1962. In 1971, she received her bachelor's degree from the Painting Department, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Studio, at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1982, she completed her doctoral studies in Art History at Istanbul University. From 1970-1975 and 1980, she attended the Salzburg Summer Academy under the direction of Prof. Otto Eglau and Prof. Werner Otte, studying Engraving and Lithography, with a scholarship from the Austrian Ministry of Culture. In 1977, she worked as a guest artist at the Rochester Institute of Technology Printmaking Department, and from 1981-1993, she was a guest artist six times at the Salzburg Lithography Workshop. From 1982-1994, she worked in serigraphy at Süleyman Saim Tekcan's studio in Söğütlüçeşme and at the Çamlıca Art House. Gül DERMAN was an artist who worked the longest in the screen printing workshop and served as an honorary ambassador for the institution. She passed away in 1994.
