Biography
Gülsün Erbil, born in İzmir in 1948, is a Turkish painter and artist. She graduated from the American Girls' College in Istanbul in 1966 and from the Painting Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1971. She received postgraduate training in ceramics at Goldsmiths' College in London from 1983–1984, and in textiles from 1993–1994. Erbil is considered one of the important representatives of abstract art. Since 1977, her "Mystic Cycle" approach, developed under the influence of Mevlana's philosophy and Sufism, has been one of the fundamental characteristics of her art. She uses geometric and calligraphic forms, textures, and minimalist elements in her works.
